OUR HISTORY AND PROFILE

The ministry of the New Hope Christian Missionary Baptist Church, Inc. was organized in July of 1969, by the late Rev. Malachi G. Baker. Rev M.G. Baker faithfully served as Pastor for over 26 years, and has left a profound legacy of dedication and unwavering commitment to ministry and the truths of God’s Word.

As a result of the teachings and example rendered by Rev. M.G. Baker, New Hope church developed a disposition and atmosphere that displays warmth and compassion which has always been inviting to many regardless of race, social class, or gender. We maintain such an atmosphere through a “Small Groups” ministry format that places and assimilates every member into a “Hope Group” for the purpose of spiritual  intimacy through corporate
prayer and relevant Bible study.

Our Pastor

Reverend Ernest A. Baker, Sr. is the Senior Pastor of New Hope Christian Missionary Baptist Church. Born, raised, and educated in Chicago, Illinois, Pastor Baker is a third generation Baptist minister licensed and ordained in 1990. Pastor Baker served five years as Assistant Pastor of New Hope Christian M.B. Church under the pastorate of his father the late Rev. Malachi G. Baker. In October of 1995, Pastor Baker was installed as Senior Pastor, as his father assumed the status of Pastor-Emeritus.

Pastor Ernest A. Baker, Sr. is widely known for his sincere and genuine care and concern for the Kingdom and people of God. Pastor Baker is known by the congregation of New Hope, to be very accessible and personable particularly in regard to our needs spiritually and otherwise. Pastor Baker is also passionate about God’s Word (the Bible) and delivers his sermons through a “teaching” style that is both expository and practical. He is the author of the “Christian Foundations Course”, and numerous Bible Study workbooks. As reflective of his “Pastor’s heart” for humanity and our communities, Pastor Baker is the President and CEO of Culture of Hope Inc., a community – focus human needs non-profit subsidiary organization of New Hope Christian M.B. Church. Pastor Baker is also a co-founding board member of Africa Resurrection & Restoration Ministries, a ministry organized to address the multiple needs of our brothers and sisters in Africa, particularly West African countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, The Republic of Benin, etc….
Pastor Baker is very family-oriented, and strives to “practice what he preaches” in regard to the family unit as God defines it. Pastor Baker and his wife Cheryl have been married since August 4, 1990. They have two wonderful children, Breanna Lynn and Ernest Jr. (“EJ”). We thank and praise God for our Pastor and his family, which also includes his mother-in-law Mtr. Ann James, for their faithful service to the ministry of New Hope Christian M.B. Church.

STATEMENT on MARRIAGE, GENDER, and SEXUALITY

We, the Pastorate and membership of the New Hope Christian Missionary Baptist Church of Chicago, IL., adopt and embrace the following statement regarding Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality:

We Believe

that the term “marriage” has only one meaning, and that is marriage sanctioned by God which joins one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union as delineated in Scripture (i.e. the Holy
Bible).

We Believe

that God intends sexual intimacy to only occur between a man and a woman who are married to each other.

We Believe

that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

We Believe

that any form of sexual immorality such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, pornography, and transgenderism; is sinful and offensive to God.

We Believe

that in order to preserve the function and integrity of the church as the local Body of Christ,  and to provide a biblical role model to the church members and community at large; it is imperative that
all persons employed by the New Hope Christian M.B. Church in any capacity, as well as those who volunteer, abide by and agree to this Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality, and conduct
themselves accordingly.

We Believe

that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

We Believe

that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated, and are not in
accord with Scripture and the biblical principles held by the New Hope Christian M.B. Church.

TENETS OF FAITH

We Believe

  • THAT GOD IS CREATOR AND SUSTAINER’ OF ALL EXISTENCE. (GENESIS 1:1; JOB CHAPTERS 38-41)
  • THAT THE BIBLE IS THE INSPIRED (“GOD-BREATHED”), INERRANT, INFALLIBLE WORD OF GOD, AND IS AUTHORITATIVE TRUTH FOR AUTHENTIC CHRISTIAN LIVING. (II TIMOTHY 3:16; PSALM 119:105)

Ministry Descriptions

“Ministries contributing to our atmosphere of HOPE”

Ministerial Team

The Ministerial Team contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by providing ministerial guidance and services through the preaching and teaching of God’s Word to all demographics of our congregation. They are also responsible for assisting our Senior Pastor in providing Biblical counsel for all in need of such assistance.

Prayer Ministry

The Prayer Ministry contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by serving our congregation through intercessory prayer. They have the very significant role of receiving all prayer requests, as well as consistent prayer sessions on behalf of our congregation and their families. The Prayer Ministry is also responsible for coordinating community prayer activities as well as representing our church at such events.

Deacons Ministry

The Deacons Ministry contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by serving as assistants to our Senior Pastor, as well as providing general oversight for all ministries and operations of our church.

Voices of Hope

The Voices of Hope is our adult gospel choir, which contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by providing anointed and powerful choral gospel music for our corporate worship services. They also represent our church by ministering at various church and community events.

Praise Team

The Praise Team contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by leading our weekly corporate worship services. Their anointed ministry helps create a rich worship experience for all who attend our church services.

Multimedia Ministry

The Multimedia Ministry contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by providing our congregation with audio and video assistance for all corporate worship gatherings. They are also responsible for coordinating our church’s access, activity, profile, and presence with regard to all internet and social media platforms.

Missions Ministry

The Missions Ministry contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by monitoring and responding to the physical and spiritual needs of our congregation and the community at large. This ministry also coordinates a database of outside resources, programs, and partnerships for referral purposes for those in need.

Mother's Board

The Mothers Board contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by providing oversight for, and the handling of our two primary Biblical corporate ordinances: Holy Communion and Baptism. This anointed group of godly women are also responsible for imparting spiritual direction and encouragement for the younger demographic of ladies within our congregation.

Musicians

The Musicians contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by providing the instrumental component to our corporate worship services. They are also responsible for the vocal teaching, song arrangement and coordination, and accompaniment for other ministries associated with the ministry of music.

Christian Education

The Christian Education entity of our church contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by providing biblically sound teaching and instruction for our Sunday School classes and all teaching settings of our church.

Men’s Ministry

The Men’s Ministry contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by providing a male-centered emphasis through fellowship, Bible Study, and service to our church and its constituency as instructed from the Holy Bible.

Women’s Ministry

The Women’s Ministry contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by providing a female-centered emphasis through fellowship, Bible Study, and activities that foster spiritual encouragement and guidance for the female population of our congregation.

D.B. Praise Dance Ministry

The Darnella Baker (“DB”) Praise Dance Ministry, named after the wife of our organizing Pastor the late Rev. Malachi G. Baker, Jr., contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by providing anointed praise dance presentations for our corporate worship services.

Little Angels Praise Dance Ministry

Miraculous Praize

Miraculous Praize is our Mime Ministry, which contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by rendering mesmerizing and anointed mime presentations for our corporate worship services

Greeters Ministry

The Greeters Ministry contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by providing a Christ like presence at the entrance of our sanctuary. They also provide an impeccable display of attentiveness and service to all attendees during any of our corporate worship gatherings.

Culinary Ministry

The Culinary Ministry contributes to our atmosphere of HOPE by handling and overseeing all food related activities for our church. This ministry is gifted in the areas of preparing, cooking, and serving food for virtually any group size. They also are responsible for coordinating and monitoring the church food pantry.

Youth Church Ministry

The Youth Church Ministry contribute to our atmosphere of HOPE by providing an emphasis for our youth from birth to age 20. The staff is responsible for providing spiritual and social assistance and guidance for our youth demographic. They are also responsible for the coordination of all youth related activities and programs, both for the youth of our congregation as well as those within the community.
