Reverend Ernest A. Baker Sr.
Our Pastor
Reverend Ernest A. Baker, Sr. is the Senior Pastor of New Hope Christian Missionary Baptist Church. Born, raised, and educated in Chicago, Illinois, Pastor Baker is a third generation Baptist minister licensed and ordained in 1990. Pastor Baker served five years as Assistant Pastor of New Hope Christian M.B. Church under the pastorate of his father the late Rev. Malachi G. Baker. In October of 1995, Pastor Baker was installed as Senior Pastor, as his father assumed the status of Pastor-Emeritus.
Pastor Ernest A. Baker, Sr. is widely known for his sincere and genuine care and
concern for the Kingdom and people of God. Pastor Baker is known by the congregation
of New Hope, to be very accessible and personable particularly in regard to our needs
spiritually and otherwise. Pastor Baker is also passionate about God’s Word (the Bible)
and delivers his sermons through a “teaching” style that is both expository and practical.
He is the author of the “Christian Foundations Course”, and numerous Bible Study
workbooks. As reflective of his “Pastor’s heart” for humanity and our communities,
Pastor Baker is the President and CEO of Culture of Hope Inc., a community – focus
human needs non-profit subsidiary organization of New Hope Christian M.B. Church.
Pastor Baker is also a co-founding board member of Africa Resurrection & Restoration
Ministries, a ministry organized to address the multiple needs of our brothers and sisters
in Africa, particularly West African countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, The Republic of
Benin, etc….
Pastor Baker is very family-oriented, and strives to “practice what he preaches” in
regard to the family unit as God defines it. Pastor Baker and his wife Cheryl have been
married since August 4, 1990. They have two wonderful children, Breanna Lynn and
Ernest Jr. (“EJ”). We thank and praise God for our Pastor and his family, which also
includes his mother-in-law Mtr. Ann James, for their faithful service to the ministry of
New Hope Christian M.B. Church.
